Experience
I received my B.S. in Biological Sciences (emphasis in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics) from the University of Maryland. I have been tutoring since high school, in a variety of settings. While a student at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, I tutored classmates and students from other institutions in Math. Then, in college, I was able to work with America Counts in a mentoring and tutoring program for junior high school students. Although my tutoring background is primarily focused in Mathematics, I offer assistance in other subjects as well. My primary tutoring areas include elementary-level Math through Pre-Calculus, Biology, and other science courses. I like walking students through concepts and helping them to find the places where their processes are breaking down. I understand the importance of patience, and that a successful tutoring relationship includes an element of mentoring rather than just instruction. I begin by uncovering what the student already knows and then building on that foundation. I strive to instill confidence in my students. When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I like to play tennis (weather allowing), read the New York Times, draw, and watch movies.
